The ecological footprint of the laminate

Ecological production

The production of laminate follows an ecological process. Laminate floors are a derivative of one of the renewable raw materials par excellence, wood, in fact, are made of wood fibers and cellulose, or paper. All components are produced without the use of heavy metals or pesticides and the coating layers contain no plasticizers. For the wood fiber panel, residual products from the wood industry and forest thinning are used.To confirm the control of the production system there are some international certifications, such as PEFC, which certify the use of wood from forests managed according to ecologically sustainable criteria.

Formaldehyde under control

With laminate, health is not at risk even if formaldehyde is present. This substance is naturally contained in the wood and therefore is found in any wood product, even in the melamine resin of the laminate. However, in the hardening phase, the melamine resin formaldehyde is incorporated into the wood structure, therefore it is not able to be dispersed in the air. Emissions are strictly monitored, the European class of emission must be E1, a value that indicates that the limit imposed by law is respected, equal to 0.1 ppm (= 0.12 mg / m3 of air). Products that are ready for laying even have lower values, so in terms of indoor air pollution, laminate floors have a very low impact.

No glue for laying

The laminate is also ecological because it does not use glues or adhesives to be laid. To install it, dry laying is adopted using the interlocking system of which the laminate is equipped. This system, besides being quick to lay, is also easy to remove and above all does not pollute.

The laminate is recyclable

Laminate is a safe waste and does not need to be disposed of among hazardous waste, in fact: the laminate can be recycled, even in many cases it can be minced and the chips used in agriculture and gardening.
If it does not enter the recycling process, the laminate is simply disposed of in a waste sorting or thermal recycling center, because the laminate can also be disposed of through incinerators, since it is mainly made of wood and contains no harmful substances.
